Matthew is a unique Gospel account because it starts with the genealogy of Jesus. Reading through these passages of Scripture quickly learn that this was not your ordinary family tree. By tracing Jesus’ heritage we find family members were faithful to God, courageous, and even those who became royalty. We also find quite a bit of dysfunction. The stories of their lives reveal lying, prostitution, and even murder. Yet God still chose to reveal his plan to fulfill His promises through this family.
